NOVAGREEN
becoming
Novagreen is an unsigned band from Paris/France. On their first ep “Becoming” they bring us a mixture of a lot of different music styles. In their music you can find influences from Pantera, Faith No More, Guns’n’Roses and some other good bands. This kind of mixture is quiet refreshing and something new nowadays. Sometimes they sound a bit like Chrome Division, just to compare them with a known band from today. Sometimes you can find very progressive ideas in their songs which make you think about bands like While Heaven Wept and others. In France they already played on some Festivals or Concerts with some very known bands and this ep is their first step to become known outside their land. On this release are 5 songs. From this 5 songs I would recommend the song “Black Oil” as my personal fave. The singer reminds me in some moments of Mike Pathon. Not that he can sing so high like him, but I find a lot of ideas are similar to Mike Pathon singing style. The drummer did also do quiet a good work on this song. You can see that these guys know what they are doing and that they are not shy to show it. The first song reminded me a bit of Pantera. Because of this I was a bit skeptic in the beginning that they are a Pantera copy. Fortunately they proof that they are better then that, that they are not a copy band. “Midnight” is also a good song. After “Black Oil” the second best song on this release. “Alone” is not among my faves on this release, but still, it can pass. “Round&Round” is the song which makes me compare them with Chrome Division in some moments. A true R’n’R song. All in all, this is a release that I would recommend and make me wait for their first album. I would give to this release a higher vote, if it had some more songs, but for an ep its good.
